Today, I would like to drink an Aperol Spritz and listen to something that makes me dream of the ocean. Here it is: Rodrigo Amarante’s “Maré”. The song uses images of the sea to ruminate on destiny, “A maré que leva / É a maré que traz” (translation: “the tide that takes / It’s the tide that brings”).The production is impeccable—melodic guitar lines, syncopated percussion and a keyboard line that is both busy and hooky at the same time. This is great weekend listening, so I am going to do just that and leave you with this fantastic lyric: “Sorte é não querer mais que viver” (translation: “Luck is not wanting more than to live”). Listen via Polyvinyl Records.
